India: A New Life

For thousands of children in India, side streets and train stations are the places they call “home.”  However, one Salesian priest in the city of Vijayawada has made it his mission to get them off the streets and into schools.  The winner of three Telly awards, this PBS Frontline World documentary showcases Father Thomas Koshy’s successful program and provides a raw look at the children desperate for his help.  Using an innovative approach to draw them into Navajeevan Bala Bhavan, Father Koshy employs former street kids as part of the rehabilitation process.  Through outreach and mentoring programs, these children become positive role models for a life beyond the streets.
